About the Workshop

This meeting is sponsored by the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) as an EMBO World Workshop and co-sponsored by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

The aims of the workshop are: 1) to bring together experts on meiosis in different model organisms, to increase communication between them, and to propagate recent results and hypotheses, new methodologies, and new collaborations among scientists working on meiosis. 2) to provide a forum for young researchers to meet with experts covering a wide range of topics in meiosis and to discuss their current and future work. 3) to discuss the latest insights in regulatory mechanisms of meiosis, chromosome dynamics during meiosis, evolutionary aspects of meiosis, and its relation to gametogenesis and genetic disorders.
We will have talks from invited speakers as well as speakers selected from submitted abstracts (short talks). In addition there will be poster sessions. Contributions from younger members of the meiosis community are particularly encouraged. The venue is Shonan Village, located some 50km southwest to central Tokyo. The meeting facility is on the top of a hill with a marvelous ocean view, isolated considerably from the downtown. Kamakura is a nearby historical town. The number of participants will be limited to about 150. Accommodation and meals for all delegates will be provided in the meeting facility. Most rooms at the facility are for double occupancy, although a limited number of single rooms are available. The registration fee, which includes housing and meals, will be 530 Euro for double occupancy and 630 Euro for single occupancy. More detailed information can be found in the registration section.
