About the Practical Course

This World Practical Course (WPC) is aimed at research scientists at their advanced doctoral or post-doctoral stage.  Up to 20 students will be instructed during seven days through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practical work at the facilities of the Nanosciences and Nanobiotechnology Center (Centro de Nanociências e Nanotecnologia - CNANO) of the University of Brasilia (UnB).

As Nanobiotechnology is a relatively new field, this WPC will be timely in that it will provide hands-on experience with state-of-the-art methods, techniques and instrumentation increasingly used in the field.

Some of the areas covered for magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are:
(1) synthesis and coating/functionalization,
(2) chemical and physical characterization
(3) in vitro and in vivo biological tests
(3) drug delivery and targeting
(4) photodynamic therapy (PDT) related magnetohyperthermias and magnetohyperthermia
(5) biological remediation

Some of the areas related to the study of nanomachines will be:
(1) patch-clamping of nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) and other cellular ion channels.

Deadline for Applications:  12th July, 2007
