This workshop on plant molecular virology will provide an extraordinary and unique possibility to discuss the recent advances in this field.

The complete genome sequence of most plant viruses and of several hosts together with the availability of new high-throughput technologies for performing proteomics, functional genomics and genome-wide analyses have recently revolutioned our way of dissecting molecular interactions among plant viruses, their hosts and vectors.

Therefore the output of the workshop will impact all areas of virology and also more generally plant pathology.

The molecular bases encompassing plant defences against virus and viroid infections, counter-defence strategies developed by these pathogens, their replication and trafficking mechanisms, the complex relationships among vectors, plants and viruses and their evolutionary implications will be the principal topics of the workshop. This is reflected in two sessions dedicated to Plant Response (a particularly rich subject in recent years), one dedicated to Virus/Vector Interactions (an emerging area, with an increasing research effort worldwide), and three dedicated to Virus Replication and Translation, Virus Movement and Trafficking, Virus Recombination and Evolution.

Torino lies at the centre of a wonderful region, Piemonte, the 'land at the foot of the mountains' and is surrounded by the Alps and a chain of hills.

A trip to Torino can engage several further visits, through the hills of the Canavese, exploring castles and towers, sanctuaries and abbeys, royal residences and parks, then through the "Citta' di Charme" (charming historical towns), on the path of colours and flavours, wandering amongst the precious vineyards of the Monferrato and the Langhe, skirting the lake district with its Sacri Monti (the mountain sanctuaries), purchasing some the many wonderful traditional luxuries offered by the region.
