bHLH proteins play essential roles in the development of many organs, and their dysregulation is an important cause of cancer.
bHLH proteins usually act by coordinating multiple cellular processes such as cell division, cell fate specification and cell differentiation. Improving our understanding of how bHLH proteins work e.g. in stem cell differentiation or tumour formation, will have important implications in both basic science and medicine.
We hope that bringing together scientists studying a variety of model systems will help identify common mechanisms in the regulation and activity of bHLH proteins, and will help integrate the information obtained from analyzing these proteins at different levels (cellular, biochemical, genomic, etc) |
