About the Workshop***Update : Latest programme now available In the recent past it has become increasingly evident that stem cells are present in several adult organs and tissues and can generate their diverse cellular components. A wealth of recent experimental evidence also supports the notion that at least many types of cancers possess a hierarchical structure whereby a minute sub-population of tumour stem cells is responsible for the development and the maintenance of cancer. These cells, that exhibit distinct features in terms of antigenic profile, proliferative status, self-renewal potential and drug sensitivity, may be considered the ultimate target of cancer therapy. These issues will be discussed in the meeting, that is expected to be of interest for stem cell and cancer biologists, and clinical investigators engaged in the development of innovative approaches for cancer prevention and treatment. The official language of the Workshop will be English. |
