Transport
Primary Airport |
The primary airport serving Grenoble is Lyon St. Exupery (LYS). A shuttle bus to Grenoble ("Satobus") runs every hour on the half hour.
Journey time is 1 hour - The last bus leaves for Grenoble at 23:30.
The cost of a round trip ticket is 30 Euro (25 Euro if you are under 25) Tickets may be purchased at the Satobus counter on the departures level inside the airport (or after business hours directly on the bus). When you board the bus, inform the driver to let you off at "Place de la resistance".
From there it is a ~5-minute walk to the ESRF guesthouse.
If you miss this stop, you will get off at the bus terminus next to the train station. (To proceed to the course venue see "BY TRAIN" below).

Smaller Airport |
A smaller airport, Grenoble St. Geoirs, serves a limited number of destinations by low-cost airlines, including the UK and certain northern European cities (See: www.grenoble-airport.com) |
The main train station ("Gare SNCF") in Grenoble is located near the city centre, approximately 4 kilometres from the course venue. If you arrive on a Sunday, it is most convenient to take a taxi, as local bus service is infrequent.
If you arrive Mon-Sat, you may alternatively take the "Semitag" city bus no. 34 in the direction "Polygone Scientifique", which ends its run in front of the ESRF gate.
|
The gate to the joint ILL/ESRF/EMBL site is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You will require a passport or identity card to obtain a site pass. Please note that if you arrive on campus in the evening it may be difficult to find proper food, so it is best to eat (e.g. near the train station) before travelling to the ESRF Guesthouse. |
