The UCD Conway Institute provides for all aspects of tissue microarray construction and analysis. In more detail, a Manual Tissue Arrayer I from Beecher Instruments is routinely used to generate tissue microarrays containing up to 500 cores per paraffin block (normally 0.6mm diameter/core). In addition, a suite of automated systems for tissue processing (Leica Histokinette), block preparation (Leica EG1150H) and immunohistochemisty (Leica XL, LeicaCV5030 and Lab Vision 360) is available.
A resident Aperio ScanScope CS scanning system allows for the digital capture of histopathological images, facilitating both manual and automated quantitative assessment of nuclear, membraneous and cytoplasmic staining on both full face sections and tissue microarrays. The facility also provides training in all the standard aspects of tissue processing and antigen retrieval approaches, in addition to the microscopic evaluation of special stains.
A dedicated computer laboratory is available with 25 terminals and digital projection facilities. The University also has very comfortable housing facilities, which are approx. 5 minutes walk across campus from the UCD Conway Institute.
There are extensive sport facilities adjacent to the Institute. There are a variety of restaurants available on campus, which the participants can avail of during their stay.
