General enquiries:

Mr. Elton Rexhepaj (elton.rexhepaj@ucd.ie)

For several years, Prof. William Gallagher’s group has been involved in the application of transcriptomic (Gallagher WM. et al., Carcinogenesis, 2005) and proteomic profiling approaches to identify putative biomarkers and functional mediators of disease progression (http://www.ucd.ie/conway/cv_188.html).

Tissue microarray technology has provided us ((Brennan DJ. et al., Clinical Cancer Research, 2006; O’Brien SJ et al., International Journal of Cancer, 2007) and others with an ideal mechanism for translation of such work into clinical relevance. Early on, we identified a clear need for adoption of advanced image analysis approaches to match the high-throughput nature of the experimental modality provided by tissue microarrays.

In this context, the UCD Conway Institute invested heavily in the establishment of a state-of-the-art Core Facility in Tissue Microarray Construction and Image Analysis, assisted by dedicated funding from the Health Research Board of Ireland.
