By Air
Manchester, Leeds/Bradford and Nottingham East Midlands airports are all about an hour's travel time from Sheffield. Manchester Airport is served by many domestic and international carriers and has a direct rail link to Sheffield both day and night.
Both London airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) are reasonably accessible by rail with just one change of train. We recommend you to allow at least four hours travel time between either of these airports and Sheffield.
By Train
Sheffield is at the heart of the railway network. Regular services operate between Sheffield and London St. Pancras (2.5 hours), Birmingham (1.25 hours), Leeds (1 hour) Manchester (1 hour) and Nottingham (1 hour).
There is a direct link from the railway station to the Sheffield Station Supertram stop via the main overbridge; the 60 bus runs from outside the railway station. Alight on Fulwood Road, opposite the Holiday Inn Sheffield West Hotel. Turn left down Woodvale Road and left again into Endcliffe Vale Road (5 minutes walk). A taxi rank is outside the train station, the journey should cost about £5-10, depending on traffic.
By Coach
National Express operates a comprehensive coach service to most parts of the country from Sheffield Transport Interchange, Pond Street. The fastest service to London takes about 3.5 hours. The 60 bus runs from the Transport Interchange, and there are Supertram links via the railway station (platform 6b) and Commercial Street
By Car
We recommend that, unless you know the city well, when travelling from the north, east and south you should approach Sheffield by the M1 (and M18 if necessary). From the west, use the A57 Snake Pass via Glossop. The recommended main routes to and from the University are indicated on the Central Sheffield map.
From M1, M18
Approach Sheffield on the M1 and leave the motorway at Junction 33, following the City Centre signs along the dual carriageway A630/A57/A61 Parkway, which ends in a large roundabout - Park Square.
From here, take the third exit, the A61(S), along Sheaf Street, following the Ring Road signs, and passing the railway station on the left.
Stay in the centre lane approaching the Sheaf Square roundabout, and then take the first exit into Suffolk Road, again following signs for the Ring Road.
Turn right onto the Ring Road and now follow signs for the University. Continue straight on as far as the third roundabout, the Brook Hill roundabout.
Take the first exit for the main Western Bank precinct and the fourth exit for the Applied Science departments in Mappin Street (off Broad Lane).
From the West (A57)
Follow the "City Centre" signs. The route continues to Western Bank, a main road that runs through our campus, and the University is signposted for the last mile.
Maps and published guides (central Sheffield)
The city centre has many one-way and no-entry streets not marked on maps. Parking in the city centre can be difficult at busy times, but public pay and display cark parks on the outskirts of the city centre are signposted from main roads into the city centre.
