About the Workshop

Homologous recombination is a highly regulated cellular process implicated in repairing DNA breaks and in maintaining genome integrity.

In certain pathological situations, including cancer, homologous recombination can cause genome rearrangements.

In recent years our understanding of the mechanisms of homologous recombination and its importance in the maintenance of genome integrity has been advanced by the discovery that several cancer susceptibility syndromes are caused by mutations in genes involved in recombination pathways.

The 2008 EMBO conference on DNA recombination will cover the recent advances in recombination mechanisms and the relative implications for inheritable human diseases.
