The 2000 year old city of Regensburg has a unique medieval town centre. The old town area is restricted to minimum traffic, and its buildings have been carefully restored in recent decades.

It's full of life, just as it's always been. In Regensburg's richness of old buildings, the city district contains more than 1500 individual historic buildings dating from many centuries.

Almost 1000 of them are included in the ensemble "Old Town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof", which formed the basis for Regensburg's application as a World Heritage site.
